This was a meeting held specifically to hear the views of the citizens. After prayer from Mr. Snead the the Pledge of Allegiance, the citizens were called upon by Chairman Harville to speak. The first speakers spoke about the uranium issue. Then the remainder of the speakers spoke regarding the proposed school budget and the proposed county budget. We recorded the speakers on video, and also recorded statements from several of the supervisors and county administrator. In order to keep from clogging up this blog with too many videos, we may consider uploading two or three videos, leave them up for a couple of days, and then delete them and add a few more, until all have been available for viewing. I hadn't planned on uploading to YouTube, but it would certainly be a way to get them all up for your viewing and comparison. You can leave comments as to how you would like to see us do these videos. You may comment anonymously if you like. This site, as a new site, will be running on "trial and error" until we see what works best, so by all means, leave comments for us! Thanks. Here are the first videos from the hearing:
This first gentleman is Mike Hudson:
This next video is Ms. Karen Carter, and Chairman Harville speaks up to clarify couple of valid points:
Mr. J. J. Moore also had an opinion on the school budget issue...

If the board really wants to save money, why don't they start with themselves? I don't mean cutting their salaries, how about, paying for their own internet, or laptops, or maybe using the county provided internet and laptops to download the board packets and agendas instead of making deputies go out of their way to deliver the packets to them? How about cutting out being paid for mileage, I don't get paid to drive to work. Anyway, I believe that the board of supervisors salaries are the least of their governmental income. And people shouldn't group all county employees in with the board, county employees are citizens of this county too. And I will guarantee that none of them are happy about the way our current board is handling things, they just can't speak out against the board or risk loosing their jobs.
I am an elderly women and really appreciate this web site. I wonder why there is not more comments? Marshall is my supervisor and I am so proud of him. You are right he is the only honest one in the bunch. I only hope they don't give him a heart attack over all that is going on. Marshall has the peoples interest at hand and it shows. I don't understand why the other supervisors don't have the interest of the public in mind. Everyone seems to be saying the same thing. Why don't they want what we want? I won't be writing again anytime soon as I don't know how to type well and this took me a long time to write besides who wants to hear from an old women anyway. My time has come and is leaving rapidly but I did want the folks who are doing this to know how much I appreciate it. Thank you and God Bless YOU.
I agree with "Theorist", the board should cut from the inside out, from top to bottom.
They don't pay for their "personal" internet?
They have the deputies deliver the board packets?!?!?
I don't get paid to drive to work either, and I don't care WHO you are, these are hard times. They should be taking the first step and showing the taxpayers that they are willing to do their part to cut back.
I know many county employees, and I understand fully why they are afraid to say anything bad about the board. "Don't bite the hand that feeds you" (or so they say.)
