This is what I say about....

Dan Sleeper.
Hi. I'm Debbie S. and I want to clear up a few things - at least from my perspective. You all reading this certainly have the right to your own opinion - and I know some of you will not see it my way - but here goes. I have heard a lot of remarks about "Coy Harville and Dan Sleeper" as far as their "government" of this county. This is what I say: Dan doesn't make the rules - he only carries them out as he is instructed to do by the Board of Supervisors. Dan works hard and takes an awful lot of flack - because people think he makes the ultimate decisions about how this county is run and he doesn't. He needs a job, just like everyone else, and his job is to administrate the running of the county as instructed by the Board. Yes, basically he is told what has to be done, and he has the daunting task of figuring out how to get it done.

If he stood up against the Board to take a stand different than theirs - they would fire him without a blink. Some people have said he doesn't have the kahunas to stand against the Board. I say that he needs his job, just like the rest of us.

I know that even this blog has painted him in an unflattering light a couple of times...you know that video of him sitting back and scratching his belly was just funny :-) but Ross and I both say Dan works very hard and has an extremely difficult task to please the Famous Four.

Does the S following Debbie stand for Sleeper?

The comment stating that the S following Debbie stands for Sleeper is just the reason why nothing ever gets reported correctly in or on any news media forum. It is all about sensationalism. How can I shock or insult. This blog is not about crude or crass people only reporting. We do have opinions and ideas which from time to time express. If you are not of the same opinion than this is the forum for you to express it. Not insult the person who took the time out of their day to be a part of and help the community by creating this blog. It is this crassness that gets in the way of making progress in our county. I now challenge the person who wrote this to apologize and state why they feel so strongly about Dan and what he is doing write or wrong. Then we can investigate and substantiate the claims good or bad putting everyone's mind at ease knowing the truth. And act on the information accordingly. Why is there so much hate and discontent in the world?? Because no one takes the time to get to the bottom of anything they just call names. Politics as usual. Politicians spend millions upon millions of our tax dollars spewing distorted information about their opponents instead of saying what they think is wrong or write and how they could fix it or not or better yet possibly improve it. Politicians should not be allowed to talk to or about each other. Just state their own case period. But that would not make for the soap opera feast we have at every election. I am ashamed for the person who wrote that about Debbie a person who has worked tirelessly to bring this blog to you all. Shame on you and I hope you have the courage to write back and become a contributing member of this blog. We are after all doing this for you and could use your help and support.

Kudos to Debbie for continuing the blog. I read comments by her under other posts about maybe letting it go because the counter isn't running as fast as she would like....Debbie, DON'T GIVE UP THE FIGHT!
Transparency is the only thing that will help residents of Pittsylvania County keep up with the goings-on in THEIR government. I think that, with the proper grassroots networking, this blog will be an invaluable tool for citizens when election time comes around.
It takes dedication and guts to 1)spend as much time in board meetings to listen and report and 2)pour yourself into the writing of the blog. You are performing a service.

If only one person reads this blog, but it makes them have 10 substantial conversations with their neighbors, then the multiplier takes over....just like the old "butterfly effect".

Dan Sleeper is a talented guy with a long history of military and municipal service. His tenure will only be as good as the things he is allowed to succeed in by those he reports to. That is a difficult position to be in, but one that he must remain in as long as he believes in the mission (and wants to continue receiving a paycheck).
