Easy as ABC (license, that is)

Hi, folks. I am going to give voice to my thoughts on Sunday beer, and also liquor by the drink. I am a sold-out Christian, through and through. Haven't always been, but I am now. I love the Lord, and thank Jesus every day for my Salvation.

But, I don't see the issues about beer and liquor as particularly religous ones. I see them as economic ones. Without these laws, Pittsylvania County cannot entice restaurants, such as Applebees - or any of a plethora of nice restaurants! Without nice restaurants, businesses don't want to locate...it's just a vicious circle. For instance, if we had liquor by the drink in Pittsylvania County, we may already have a restaurant in Gretna near the Hampton Inn. Believe me, restaurants don't just locate in a region because the people ask them to. it's strictly business folks, and many things are taken into consideration - traffic counts, demographics, and licensing efforts, and for those restaurants that serve mixed drinks, (and many do) the public issues surrounding liquor by the drink.

Businesses like to be in areas populated with good places to eat, as well. Of course, that's only a preference - but it's still a viable preference.

And, I'm sure you all know by now that one of the reasons - and I say one, because obviously there were several, but one of the larger reasons Walmart decided against location in Blairs is because there would be no Sunday Beer sales.

People, you're not solving a thing by keeping beer sales out of the county on Sunday - the county is losing valuable revenue...because people can go to any surrounding county and buy, and they do. So those of you who may be against this need to know that it's not saving a thing - the only thing it's doing, again, is causing our citizens that prefer beer to have to drive farther, and give money to other localities. Face it, you may not drink and you may not agree with those who do - but agree or not, there are people that like beer. Let them get it in our county - at least, we'll be gaining something!

I'd like to hear your comments - in fact, please use the email on the side to email your supervisor. Maybe they'll read it....

Thank you. Glad I am not the only one. Think about this. Check it out if you want I know I am right. The town of Chatham can not sell beer on Sunday but they do have Liguor by the drink. They passed it back int he day when Ben and Betty Davenport owned that nice restaurant downtown. This thing does not need to go to a ballot again. Just one more supervisor needs to be convinced to vote for it. Freddie, Coy and Pritchett are on board. So you know who you need to try and convince...Good Luck

I heard nothing from Fred Ingram after multiple attempts to get information.

This one thing, liquor by the drink could do more for the ecconomy of Pittsylvania County then practically any thing an Ecconomic Developement Corp. could do in the next five years. I just don't believe we would be selling our soles. There are plenty of good people, Christian people, who enjoy a drink before dinner or at a get together. How about a vote right here on this Blog. Those in favor or against post a short note how you feel and why and lets have a real disscussion on the subject. The county citizens never really talk to each other about thse sort of things. Let's start taling to each other and find out what we all really think. I can think of no easier way to do this and you know what, thanks Debbie and Ross, who ever you are, for giving us this opportunity. Please lets not waste it. It is always the radicals we here from how about us just regular Joe's talking and having a say in our way of life and governmenet. I don't personaly have the guts to stand up in front of Coy Harvel or anyone else on the board for that matter. the thought of facing any of them scares me to death. I know how mean and condencending they can be. I have goose bumps just thinking about meeting Coy on the street let alone standing up at a meeting face to face with the man. Alright then, I've gone first who will be second?? Come on join in. Tell your friends and colleges to particiapte also. It will be fun and informitive. Be a part of our polictical system. I bet if we all ask, Debbie and or Ross would be glad to present the findings to the Board for their consideration.

I've commented on this very subject several times and have e-mailed my local representative to no avail (and NO response). The citizens do have a say and should be able to decide on Sunday Beer Sales and/or Liquor by the drink. It's time that our supervisors put it to vote by the citizens again. No one on the board needs their ducks in a row for US, as citizens, to decide. You SUPERVISORS leave the vote up to US.

I love you all but you are missing the most important point of all. Coy Harville has removed the people from the government by not allowing us as a county to make up our own minds. He has taken our right to vote away from us. All that Fred wanted was to put it on the ballot and let the people have their say. NO Coy says, and of course his puppets, the people are stupid and don't know what is good for them. People they have taken the foundation of democracy and trashed it. You don't get the biggest travesty here. Our vote has been taken away. When the citizens ask a supervisor, congressman, senator, or anyone representing them in the government to address something and bring it to a vote it should be done no matter how silly or incredible stupid it might be. Let the people decide. They are our representatives not our caretakers. Wake up, you all should be so angry that they are so arrogant. I have lived here most of my life. I left for a while then came back and I love my home place but it is so aggravating that we as a county just plain don't get it or simply care at all that we are getting duped.
