Editorial: To go along with these three clips from Monday night's meeting, I want to say I am apalled that Fred Ingram's motion to put Sunday Beer and Wine Sales on the Ballot died a slow "death by Board" at the meeting on July 6. What is the problem? Put it on the ballot - let the citizens decide. It's not up to the Board to guess. I personally feel like it will add much needed revenue to the county - it's not going to promote drunkeness - if people want to drink, they are going to the surrounding localities on Sunday and spending their money in another county, city or town. Corky Medaglia also spoke at the meeting as to why this is now becoming an important issue to Tomahawk Mills Winery. Seems to have fallen on deaf ears, for the most part. Why is this happening? The Board of Supervisors is impeding business and losing revenue to the surrounding counties.
And, when C&E's Restaurant told the Board that the water line up Rt. 40 was inadequate, watch the snide comment made later in the meeting:

Can you spell JERK
Ok, listen to what Mr. Sleeper said in that video. You can do the Beer & Wine sales on Sunday by DISTRICT!! That means if Callands-Gretna wants it then Mr. Ingram can put in on the ballot for HIS district instead of County wide. If it passes in HIS district then you could have beer and wine sales in the Callands-Gretna district on Sunday. Why doesn't he re-visit the issue and ask for it to be added for his district only. He might get a second that way. Unless I misunderstood what Mr. Sleeper was saying in that video it. Someone please correct me if I am wrong.
I agree with you all. Fred should put beer and wine sales in the Gretna/Callands District back in play. Really he should put it on the ballot for liquor by the drink also. Someone should talk to him about this. Although in reality someone would have to coach him through it as I am not sure he is capable of anything that complicated. The block of four love him because of his lack of expertise in anything and his unique ability to make himself look like an idiot. They never help him they just use him and laugh at him in private. Bless his heart he means well I think but really has no clue. How did he ever get elected anyway. I would be interested to know the answer to that one. Lord knows I am so glad he is not my representative on the board. The real reason the board does not want to have liquor by the drink in the county is that it would take a huge amount of business from Danville. The whole reasoning behind everyone of the 4 to 3 votes if you look closely is to protect the Danville interests. These board members are making boocoo's of money getting everything done to their advantage but the masses just don't get it. What the board members are doing is as close to ethics violations and prosecution as anyone would dare to go. The sad part is their arrogance about it. There should really be an investigation into the ethics. I hope that Ecker guy figures out how to expose them to the people and they end up getting exactly what they deserve. It may end up hurting my end of the county in the end but what is fair is fair and besides we need the whole county to do well not just the southern end which really after all their sleazy efforts is not doing that well at all. I would like it if you folks who are doing this blog would do some interviews with some of the people involved in the county business. You could start with the folks who wanted the brick factory for instance in the county. Ask them what happened. I know what happened but most people don't. Put a mike in his face. He may not want to talk about it but it is really news worthy. The local news media are certainly not going to do that but maybe you should. Put that on this crazy blog. You will get people reading it then. One more thing before I go. Why did no one jump up and scream at Mr. Harville when he so boldly stated that the northern end of the county never appreciated what the board did for them. Some one should have asked him exactly what it was that the county has done for the northern end of the county. That man has moxie I can tell you that. I would like the northern end to have it's fair share and I will admit I have skin in the game as my daughter married a great individual from the Gretna/Callands district but none the less after seeing all that has transpired I feel like the northern end is and has been getting screwed by this board for years and years and it needs to come to a screaming halt.
Anonymous- I agree with most of what you are saying especially about an ethics probe, but I know Mr. Ingram and he is very intelligent, just not as articulate as Mr. Harville. When you start to insult people you don't know it really hinders your own status as an intelligent person.
