Politics and the people

It saddens me to see how apathetic the people are to the politics on the local, state, and federal levels. No wonder the politicians get away with what they do. There is not a citizen in the United States of America that has the right to complain about what is going on unless they have participated in some way prior to the fact of what ever it is they are upset about. If a citizen does not attend or find out what transpired on just the local level alone at a board of supervisors meetings and be proactive by some means, such as responding to this blog at a minimum, then I cannot feel sorry for their woes. We have spent many hours and much money as well as an unbelievable amount of time trying to bring these meetings, and the sometimes ridiculous results of these meetings, to you the public and yet we get no feed back hardly at all. We did a show on cable TV channel 17 with Jessica Robbins for an hour and fifteen minutes in Reidsville NC trying to bring attention to the blog and the board politics and yet only two people called in. When you see what the board is doing to the county you all should be up in arms screaming. I don't get it. The sad part is you will only get it when it is to late and then you will wine and cry about what the board has done to this county. If I had time I would love to take a survey and find out just how many people in the county even know who there supervisor is and how to get in touch with them and if they have ever even talked to them. They are supposed to represent you or us. How can they possibly do this if they don't know how we feel about things. I give Marshall Ecker all the credit in the world. He holds town meeting every month religiously (with little attendance) and writes an article in the paper once a month, etc. He at least is trying to represent his constituents. He wants your input and help so where are you??? And where are the other board members. What do they do to find out how you feel. The only time you even see them out and about is when they are forcing their way into a photo opportunity or when they are looking for your vote. People they don't want you to know!!!! That folks is just wrong. They should be inspiring you to participate and making sure you understand what they are doing in the county getting feed back and ideas from the citizenry. Like I said in the beginning folks it really saddens me that we are letting so few rule so many and so poorly. You want jobs??? You want the county to grow properly??? Get involved. Just one more thing and then I am out of here. The Burlington Industries plant in Hurt sits on 600 acre of prime land butting up against the Hurt Industrial Park. Which incidentally has had to date no development at all. The plant has a water plant capable of handling at least one third of the water problems of the county. It is located just off Route 29 and has all the entrances, paving, buildings built including a state of the art shipping and receiving plant. I could go on and on about how valuable this propery is and how with the right economic development it could bring hundreds of good jobs to our area but it would take me forever and you are already tired or reading this if in fact you even got this far. Here is the clincher. The property is for sale for 2.5 million dollars. The water plant could be up and running for another 2.5 million dollars giving the town of Hurt it's own water plant alleviating Hurt having to buy water from Campbell County and also supplying the rest of the county with a rich supply of potable water. Not to mention like I said a full compliment of good solid buildings to be occupied by new industries and bring jobs to our community. However if the industries don't know it is there (economic development) and the County doesn't buy it then we stay where we are at. Yet we can spend millions upon millions on mega parks and industrial parks with nothing there. Not even and entrance. Incidentally this deal was brought to the Board of Supervisors years ago and many times since only one member was even remotely interested. The others flatly refused to even entertain a study of the property to assess it's worth. There is much more to this but I leave that to you as citizens to look into and ask the question why of your own personal board of supervisor and don't take their response as gospel. Look into it with all concerned including the Town of Hurt. And now as I promised I am out of here for now.

I, for one, am very interested in the politics of this county and how our supervisors represent us but cannot attend meetings. I appreciate your website keeping me informed of the county happenings. I am however disheartened and sickened by the constant 4-3 votes and wonder when people are going to get a gutfull and do something about it. Keep this site going....the word WILL get out.

Ross, why don't you run for office?? I know you have plenty on your plate now but we sure could use a good person up there on that stage to help out Mr. Ecker. I know you to be a person of great characture, strength, vison and a streight shooter and although I could not vote for you as supervisor I would be more than glad to campain hard for you. Please think about it.

It took me an hour to figure out how to do this Mr. Johnson so that should be an indication how serious I am when I tell you that no matter what office you might run for I will contribute both time and money to that cause. Please consider it. Oh my neighbor just stopped in right now and wondered what I was doing and she also is very excited of the prospect of you running for office. We desperately need people like you watching out for our interests.

Mr. Johnson you are way to nice a man to get mixed up in politics and the likes of Harvel and his mob. Don't do it. I and my family and friends like you just as you are. You are a concerned citizen doing what you think is good for the public and that is enough.

I don't think being involved in politics makes you a "mobster." I think some people already have those qualifications before they run for office. Ross nor Ms. Sparks, generators of this site, have the capacity to be such people....

I am just playing catch up and finally checked this blog as I usually do each week but wow we have some interest going on. Great. I know Mr. Johnson from when he was rebuilding his store. We had many talks outside when I was on a walking kick for my health. One of the reasons I kept it up so long was I looked forward to seeing and listening to Mr. Johnson and his perception of all politics. Folks you should make an effort to meet the man and talk with him. Now he will talk your ear off about what is going on but he has the knowlege and knows the people. I am with the rest of you lets get him to run for office and in turn help ourselves create a better county, state, and federal government.

Finally someone "gets it" - unfortunately, our governing body doesn't. We really need a county government and not a district government!
